What is Consultative Selling?
Diagnose before you prescribe: real questions, a peer tone, and advice after you understand the problem.
What it means
Consultative Selling is a style where the seller acts more like an advisor than a presenter. The core rule is diagnose before you prescribe: understand the buyer's problem before offering a fix. The conversation is about their agenda, not a script that would fit any account.
Consultative Selling is a sales method: a framework for how to think and write. It is not a study result, and this page does not attach a win rate or reply rate to it. This site is not affiliated with its authors or with any company that teaches it.
What it means for a sales email
A consultative email asks a real question the buyer can answer about their own world. A rhetorical pitch question does not count. It uses a peer tone, holds your read of the situation lightly, and invites them to correct it. Any recommendation comes after you have worked the problem with them.
This style fits warm replies and inbound questions especially well, because the buyer has already opened the door.
Writing practice and method guidance, not a study result.
