What is AIDA?

Attention, Interest, Desire, Action: a classic order for persuasive writing.

What it means

AIDA is a classic order for persuasive writing. The letters stand for Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action. The idea is to earn each step before asking for the next.

  • Attention: earn the open, usually with the subject line and first sentence.
  • Interest: connect the note to the reader's world.
  • Desire: give a reason to want the change.
  • Action: ask for one thing.

AIDA is a sales method: a framework for how to think and write. It is not a study result, and this page does not attach a win rate or reply rate to it. This site is not affiliated with its authors or with any company that teaches it.

What it means for a sales email

In a sales email, attention is mostly the subject and the opening line, so it should be plain and specific, not a gimmick. Interest comes from their situation, not your company history. Desire is a real reason the change matters to them. Action is one clear ask at the end.

AIDA is about order and restraint. A long email that tries to do all four steps several times loses the reader.

Writing practice and method guidance, not a study result.
